RavLight Polaris — End User Licence Agreement

This is a preview release. Read this before installing or running it.

By installing, copying or running RavLight Polaris ("the Software") you agree
to the terms below. If you do not agree, do not install or run it.


1. What you may do
------------------

You are granted a non-exclusive, royalty-free, revocable licence to install and
use the Software, free of charge, for any purpose — including commercial and
professional work such as lighting installations, hire stock and productions.
You may install it on as many computers as you need. You may keep and restore
your own backup copies.


2. What you may not do
----------------------

You may not:

  a) redistribute, publish, resell, rent, lend or sublicense the Software, or
     make it available to third parties, in whole or in part. Point people at
     https://ravlight.com instead — that way everybody gets the current build;

  b) reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the Software, or attempt to
     derive its source code, except to the extent this restriction cannot
     lawfully be excluded;

  c) modify the Software, or create derivative works from it;

  d) remove or alter any copyright, trademark or licence notice it carries.


3. Ownership
------------

The Software is licensed, not sold. Ravision retains all right, title and
interest in it. This agreement grants you no rights to the RavLight or Ravision
names, logos or trademarks.

The Software includes third-party open-source components, each under its own
licence. Those licences are reproduced in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt and, where
they grant you rights broader than this agreement in respect of that component,
those licences govern that component.

RavLight Core — the firmware that runs on the devices Polaris manages — is a
separate work under a separate licence (AGPLv3 or commercial). This agreement
does not cover it.


4. Preview software
-------------------

This is a preview. It is incomplete, it will change, and it may contain defects.
In particular:

  - The Software writes configuration to lighting devices and can install
    firmware on them. A firmware image intended for different hardware can
    leave a device unreachable over the network and needing a USB recovery.

  - Neither the Software nor the devices it manages implement any
    authentication. The security model is the network the equipment sits on,
    not a login. Do not expose either to an untrusted network.

  - You are responsible for verifying the behaviour of your equipment before
    relying on it in a production, and for any safety-critical decision about
    equipment that moves, carries load, or is rigged above people.

The terms of this agreement may differ in future releases. Terms accepted for
one version do not extend to another.


5. No warranty
--------------

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR
IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY,
FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.


6. Limitation of liability
--------------------------

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL RAVISION
BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES OR OTHER LIABILITY — WHETHER IN CONTRACT,
TORT OR OTHERWISE — ARISING FROM OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR ITS USE,
INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL OR
CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFIT, DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT, OR
INTERRUPTION OF A PERFORMANCE OR INSTALLATION.

Nothing in this agreement excludes or limits liability which cannot lawfully be
excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by
negligence.


7. Termination
--------------

This licence terminates automatically if you breach any of its terms. On
termination you must stop using the Software and delete all copies of it. You
may terminate it at any time by doing the same.


8. Governing law
----------------

This agreement is governed by the laws of Italy. The courts of Italy have
exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from it.
